These are some excellent comments there, Bill. A few notes:

To use on the desktop I suggest checking out this "canvas" view. You will absolutely love it: https://mail.google.com/tasks/canvas

When using GeeTasks you can reduce the cell size and font size if that makes your life better, like so: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sK2VtYdpQG8

If you flip your iPad upside-down you will also be able to get the bottom bar to scroll out of view when there are too many tasks to fit on screen.

Now about sorting:

First, have you considered creating a separate task list for each client?
Second, you say that you wish to have the top-level tasks (headings) sorted. Do you also need the next-level tasks (sub-tasks) sorted among themselves, or only the top-level tasks?

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: a-z sort?

Hello Gary.

For request #2 - press "edit" button and then find "purge" button at the bottom-left corner. :)

For request #1 you have a point there… Currently the title of the task is in bold and it runs several lines if there is enough space (you can change the cell size by using vertical pinch/squeeze gesture, and font size with horizontal gesture), and the description takes one line in thin, smaller font. Now that you mentioned it, it looks sort of backwards - the title should be one bold line, and the description should be several lines of thin text, unless there is no description in which case the entire title should take whole space. Hm. Let me think of that.

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: Miscellaneous Suggestions

Yes.

Make sure the button at the bottom-left says "sort:none" by pressing it a few times until it does. Tasks can be either ordered naturally, or sorted, and for indent to work they can't be sorted.

Press "edit" button at the top-right

Press you finger into a task and slide it right or left. The task will become indented / un-indented.

Does this help?

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: sub tasks

Just some miscellaneous suggestions for your consideration. I am a registered users, and various pieces of the functionality is in other Google Task managers. I prefer geeTasks though :-)

In addition / rather than changing font size by squishing finger motion, use a thin (not bold) font, and fully scroll the entire text of the task subject. For people that use the GTD methodology, you have lots of long titles. Squishing doesn't help

Add a button that "purges" completed tasks - i.e., deletes them locally and on the server

Thanks!

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: Miscellaneous Suggestions

I can make do doing it by hand. ButI am an attorney. and I organize tasks by client name. So when I have my brainstorming sessions (with myself) for each case, I am entering in maybe 5 to 12 cases at a time. then I use the last name to start each actual task…in case I "disorganize" the list somehow….and indent the task to the parent name. It would be nice at the conclusion of the brainstorming to 'hit a switch' and have the parent tasks a-z. having the subordinate tasks follow the parent task releives the necessity of that sorting somewhat. For task organization I only use the IPad because the google task igoogle and the 'work in progress' google task only for the computer are so small as to be unusable. The smartphone screen size is to small to use as a work area (for old timer me at least)…it is usful as a check when I am in a store or if my IPad is unaccessable… … your program…is what I use because it is accessable on all devices… including my part-time secretary's computer. … I have checked may of the other programs / apps that claim to do what this program does…and this has the largest working IPad screen … also, the email and calendar intrigration are not important to me…because the consistent relaibilty / usabillity / accessibility are the most important… coloring of tasks would be nice…and is something I could use to designate urgency of task completion….assignment to my secretary or to me..waiting for responce..etc.

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: a-z sort?

It's either indenting or sorting right now, you can sort a-z but then no indenting is preserved.

What exactly would you like to see?
No one can claim to have a messier desk than me. This is why I am trying to use your fine app for task organization on my Ipad/android. (Being able to access the tasks for instance when I have a bright idea while watching t v gives me a fighting chance of keeping the list up to date and active and useful.) I have case names and then I am having indented tasks under them. Is there a way to a-z other than by hand, the unindented headings/tasks?

thank you,

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: a-z sort?

If this feature is already available, I haven't found it… It would be nice to be able to uncheck all items in a list. For example, I have a packing list that I use every time I travel. It would be nice to be able to "reset" the task list by unchecking all items in the list so it's ready to use the next time I need to pack. Thanks!

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: Request: Uncheck/check all

Hi Marcel. Google Tasks does not accept due time, only due dates, hence why GeeTasks does not support it either.
I do plan to add some sort of calendar integration, so that you will be able to assign due time and create a reminder as well.

Cheers.

Forum category: General / Lite user support forum
Forum thread: Time in reminder

Denis, many thanks. Although a bit inconvenient, the switch does the trick for the moment.
A pin feature would be fine, but a simpler option is just a log-out function, which resets the whole thing until a user logs in and syncs again. Basically what the debug switch does now, but within the in-app log-in screen.
I'm surely not the only one sharing an iPad!
Hope this helps,
Alex

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: How does one sign out of geetasks?

There isn't a log off right now, although if you go to Settings app (outside of GeeTasks) , scroll down to GeeTasks and tap "Debug" you will find a switch that erases all data on next launch.

However I'm guessing what you really need is a PIN-protection of your tasks or something like that, right?

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: How does one sign out of geetasks?

I also would like this feature (now we be three!). I emailed Denis earlier today. I asked if there was a way to have more than one instance of GeeTasks on one iPod, as a possible solution, since I have a personal as well as a work Gmail account, and I'm not always within range of my wireless network so I can't just log out of one account and log into the other. I'd be willing to pay for each instance, even.

There is a way to export/import Google Tasks between Gmail accounts. It's a little clunky. I did it with 35 lists and 300+ tasks, but once it was in the new Gmail account I had to manually set up the 35 lists again (since that info was lost in translation) and then move, one by one, my tasks into their respective lists (categories). You can use it at:
https google-tasks-porter dot appspot dot com

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: Migrating between Google accounts

I'm not sure if this is the expected behavior, and it's really not a big deal, but something tells me it's not quite how it was intended:

1. Open the details of a task

2. Tap "Belongs to List" and a new window comes up with the title of the task as the window title and I choose the list that I want to move the task to

3. A new window comes up with the name of the task as the title for the window, but this time it's the task list that is the content - that's the first strange part - I would have expected the name of the list to be the title - no biggie. Also, the back button is labelled with the title of the LIST that it happens to be displaying.

4. Tapping that back button does not change the list on screen, but just changes the title of the screen to the actual list title, and also changes the label in the back button to now read "Lists".

I noticed this a few times and just assumed I perhaps didn't actually tap the back button. Today, I moved about 6 tasks though, and noticed what was going on, only because I had to tap the back button about 6 times to actually get back to the "Lists" screen. Each time I tapped back, I had the same list as the window content, but the title would change to each of the task names that I had just moved. Everything moved OK, so it's really not a big problem, but I thought perhaps others could confirm this behavior.

Checking through forums I read about the swipe left option, so I'm going to give that a try and perhaps not look back :)

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: Behavior of moving tasks between lists

That's what the app already does - record last screen and fade it in while the app itself is loading.
The only way to make it faster would be not to exit the app at all. Then it will be like e.g. mail or safari - instant on. I will certainly do that, just not sure when.

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: Faster app startup

GeeTasks is by far my most-used 3rd party app on my phone. I start it up or app switch to it many times each day. The fade-in effect only takes about a second, but it feels like a lot longer than that.

Can you remove the effect and just display the list immediately?
Since Google does not support them, it would be exceptionally hard to add something like this and make it work intuitively and reliably.

Think about this: you create a daily recurring task in GeeTasks, what do you expect to see in Google Tasks web site? 365 different tasks for the next year? And what should happen after a year? Another option would be to create a single task due on the next occurrence, and then adjust the due date when you complete that one… the problem here is that if you open Google Tasks web site and complete the task that way, and then, say, delete that task, GeeTasks will not be able to re-set the due date. Now, it can recover the deleted task, but this will create an "undead" task - one you can never delete through Google's Web site. Whichever way I look at it, it's bad user experience.

The only idea I have is to let you create a "recurring task" that simply asks you each time you complete it, if you would like to create a new instance of this task for tomorrow, next week etc…. Of course if you forgot to take your vitamins today, tomorrow there won't be a task waiting for you, so this is not a great solution either.

I'm open to suggestions, maybe together we can brainstorm something.

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: Would love recurring tasks.. is there a way to set these up

The problem here is that only a few percents of the GeeTasks users would be using this feature, so I can't justify the work of doing so. So it likely won't happen. If there is someone who wants to write the plugin, I can modify GeeTasks such that it produces a text file with current tasks, but that's all I can do.

Forum category: General / Discussions
Forum thread: Geetasks & Lockinfo
