Having thought about it I came to conclusion that Zamba is right - this may be too much. I have removed the per-list sizes in favor of the global setting. I will see how many people request more flexibility and then decide if/how to accommodate them.

Hey guys, just bought the app today and I think it's great.

Regarding the zoom features, can you please give us an option in Settings as to whether it will be per-list or not? I personally prefer only 2 zoom possibilities, 1 for portrait and 1 for landscape.

Thanks very much
Zambz

A few fixes in Beta 12-4:

The dreaded double-keyboard has made a reappearance and has been squashed

The size settings are now per-list. It's not clear which settings should be used for all new lists, so for now it's the hard-coded settings. I may use the last visited list instead…

I fixed an incorrect task count that was there a tasks that was deleted. It's an old bug, I'm surprised it wasn't noticed before.

Side-ways zoom had inverted semantics (horizontal-height, vertical-font), this was introduced in Beta 12-2 and is now fixed.

As far as I see this is pretty much ready to be released…

This feature offers some great customizability without cluttering the interface. Nice!

The usability is terrible though :-) I need to start writing documentation for these things.

I can certainly store separate values for 4 orientations per list, though I wonder if that would be too much and people will get lost? Probably not… Let me think about it.

Excellent finds! Fixed and fixed in Beta 12-3.

Note that you still can't swipe-to-delete when group-by-date is active (which is seems to have been the case for you). There is a deep reason for it which I may or may not brain through at some point.

Another bug: the app consistently (100% of the time) crashes if I swipe a tasks with one finger left-to-right or right-to-left (i.e. swipe to delete).

I just ran into a bug that I *believe* was absent from the 12-1 build. The "purge" button no longer appears at the bottom of the list.

This worked flawlessly for me—and I used the original beta build. For me, I found that I preferred having a smaller cell size with a smaller font. This made it so I could see almost 3-4 times as much on my screen as before.

I also like how you make each orientation view save separately. I wonder if it might make sense for each list to have a preferred view as well for each of the four orientations. I actually assumed this is how it worked at first. For example, I found that I like my longer lists to have smaller cells and fonts, while I preferred to view shorter lists in smaller cells but with bigger fonts.

This feature offers some great customizability without cluttering the interface. Nice!

Lots of people complained (and with a good reason) that information density on the task list is too low - some asked for smaller font and two lines of text per task, some others asked for smaller vertical cell sizes. This Beta has only one feature and it's designed to address exactly this problem.

Once you install this beta try rotating device into all 4 possible orientations: you will observe 4 different layouts. See if you like any of them better than others.

Next, try changing the font size: firmly place two fingers onto the screen and perform a pinch gesture in horizontal direction. Spreading your fingers will increase font size whereas closing them will decrease the font size.

To change cell size firmly place two fingers on screen and perform a vertical pinch gesture. Spreading fingers increases cell size and joining them decreases it.

Note that the task list might wiggle a bit under your fingers, and if it does then the pinch gesture won't work. Make sure both fingers are firmly down on the screen before you start zooming. I will see about making it less "touchy". :-) [EDIT: this is now fixed in b12.2]

As you change the sizes you will notice that due date will change it's position and Notes will appear and disappear based on availability of space. The algorithm is trying to fill the screen with data as much as possible, so if Title can fill entire task it will, however if the next line of Title does not fit the algorithm will attempt to place Notes in the spare space. The decision on whether to display Notes and how to draw Due Date is applied uniformly to the entire task list, not on per-task basis. All cells are the same height in current design. I might reconsider and move on to different cells being different height, but I decided to start here to see well it works.

The settings are memorized independently for each of the 4 possible orientations. EDIT: also for each list individually For example you can have a "grocery shopping" mode with large fonts that's upside-down and a detail-orientated mode with small font, sideways.

That's it. I hope you like it.

Oh, and one more thing - I nuked swipe-to-delete as it was getting in the way. I will try to get it back again. [EDIT: this is now fixed in b12.2]

Instructions:

You must be officially registered to participate in the Beta, otherwise it won't work. Registration is currently closed because Apple restricts the number of participants, sorry.

Download GeeTasksPro-b.12.5.ipa and drag-drop it to iTunes

Download Memengo_AdHoc.v6.mobileprovision and drag-drop it to iTunes. You can skip this step if you've done it before.

Sync iTunes with iPhone/iTouch. If you are normally pick-and-choosing which apps to sync make sure to pick GeeTasksPro so it syncs down to the device.

Ta-Da!

EDIT: video
