I have a personal tasks list and 2 I use for custom domains. Can I access all three lists from one installation of GeeTasks Pro?
No, one installation of the app can only access one account at a time. It's an often request feature though, so it will be added. Fair warning: this will likely be a paid upgrade.
In the mean time the best thing you could do is install both GeeTasks and GeeTasksPro - one for gmail and one for one of your two own domains accounts. That covers only about 2/3rds of your scenario though.
Could you elaborate why you have three tasks lists? Just so that I have better idea how these things are being used when I get to code this.
Great app, BTW. Although I don't think I can justify buying lite and paid at this point. The price point is just a little too high IMHO, but I must say that this is a great app and I hope you are fairly compensated. That said, I have a personal tasks list associated with my gmail account that I use for household and personal tasks. I have a google apps account for a company I work full time for and I have a google apps account for a company i do all my freelance work under. I try to keep the time I spend on these activities completely separated. It helps my productivity and billing, etc. This is why I have multiple tasks setups. I would even consider adding more google apps tasks since I open google apps accounts for most of my freelance clients. It would be great to further isolate tasks. I know I can create multiple lists in one tasks account and separate tasks that way, but I use the gmail 'add to tasks' feature extensively and that would get clumsy and cumbersome if I used only one tasks list.
Thanks again.
Thanks for the kind words.
So, do you also use multiple gmail/apps accounts to send email to different clients/employers? In other words, each of your clients/employers gets their own "world", right?
I wonder if you could get by with labels instead of multiple accounts. Email is easily labeled. Although Google does not support labeling tasks in a similar way, I could probably add that to GeeTasks. This is not to say you're doing it wrong - I'm just trying to get a better feel for the problem.
No, I literally send mail from three different domains. All personal correspondence comes from my gmail account. The company I work for has their own google apps domain (i don't want to mix that in with my personal mail, even if it is separated by labels) and my freelance company has its own google apps domain. I prefer keeping that separate, rather then having one account (gmail) aggregate mail from all the other accounts. I used to do it that way but didn't like it. I feel the same way about tasks. When I'm settling down to work on some of my freelance projects, I like to look at a tasks list that has just tasks pertaining to those projects, same for personal, and same for full time job.
I see. So you really want to compartmentalize things and prevent them from bleeding into each other, and you use different accounts to draw boundaries.
I have so many questions, hope you don't mind answering, if only a few…
- What are the other things you do to draw boundaries? E.g. do you set aside firm hours as well - 8am-10am is client A, 10am-4pm is project B, 4pm-10pm personal stuff. Or other things like that?
- What kind of work do you do?
- Do you stay logged in in Safari to all of your accounts? Is it a pain to switch back and forth, or does it work just fine?
- How do you deal with multiple calendars?
- Do you have problems juggling multiple passwords required for this sort of work-style?
Thanks for sharing your perspective, much appreciated.
I don't mind sharing at all:
I'm a web developer. I don't have a problem being logged in to multiple accounts. I've always used browser tabs logged in to all 3 accounts simultaneously. Same for calendars. It's a lot of tabs, but it worked out fine. The only issue can be memory usage. I do have all my calendars aggregated by my personal google calendar to keep notifications simple. Theoretically you should never have two calendar items in conflict, while you can have many tasks in progress at the same time. I do set aside blocks of time to do certain things. I tend to switch into "modes" whereas I say "I'm going into freelance mode right now." and just work on freelance stuff.
I have recently switched to Google Chrome for my web browser which allows you to save a web page as a standalone web application. It gets its own icon and runs in its own window with no menu or address bar. This has greatly simplified my life. I have "apps" for email, calendar, tasks, notes, etc. I am also a linux user. Linux (unlike windows, not sure about mac) allows you to have virtual desktops. I typically have 4-5 desktops. 1 is dedicated to my personal stuff, 2 work, 3 freelance, 4 shared. etc. I can easily move between desktops where the environment is tailored to that specific task.
