Google Tasks on iOS

Howdy! In this beta:

1. Fixes for problems exposed by iOS4. Namely, the amazing disappearing task is no longer disappearing! And the dates that were off by one day in the date selector wheels are now correct.
2. Speedup. iOS4 made it much slower to work with dates, so I optimized the date handling and tested it with 200 tasks in one list, all with different due dates. It's zippy.
3. A more robust autodetect for Google Apps vs. Gmail accounts.
4. When several tasks are created one after another without closing keyboard they end up one under another, not atop as was the case before. Because Jesse asked. :)
5. UI facelift:
   1. The checkbox icons got replaced with Derek's
   2. The spinner got replaced with Julien's
   3. The "purge" button got hiden under "Edit" mode, in non-edit mode its lace is now taken by dedicated sync button
   4. The title bar now tells you nothing if you're up to date, and the title itself is vertically centered. It animates back to the old ways if something is out of date, you haven't synced for 10 minutes etc.

EDIT 1: I have improved the horizontal centering of the title, and also fixed broken video playback in "what's new". Also fixed a bug with black bar appearing in move-task dialog. These changes are in in beta 21-2.

EDIT 2: Couple of changes in beta 21-4: fixed the bug neFAST pointed out, added missing localization for all languages.

EDIT 3: beta 24-1: some icons were updated for retina display. Including new hi-res checkboxes courtesy of Derek!

Instructions:

1. You must be officially registered to participate in the Beta, otherwise it won't work. Shoot me an email if you want to join (no promises though).
2. Download GeeTasksPro-b.24.1.ipa and drag-drop it to iTunes
3. Download GeeTasks_Pro_AdHoc.v14.mobileprovision and drag-drop it to iTunes. NOTE: YOU HAVE TO DO THIS EVEN IF YOU'VE DONE THIS BEFORE.
4. Sync iTunes with iPhone/iTouch. If you are normally pick-and-choosing which apps to sync make sure to pick GeeTasksPro so it syncs down to the device.
5. Ta-Da!

Great news. I think this app is great but the UI always put me off.

Wow—this is SUPER speedy. I can't get over how much faster the whole sync process it. I especially like the new icons and the way that the sync dialogue at the top disappears when it's not being used. I think there will be some initial confusion as to why the "purge" button is only visible now in the "edit" mode, but this new design is ultimately more logical and eloquent and new users in particular will prefer it (and existing users will quickly learn how to adjust). I think that before a lot of users just didn't "get" how to manually sync; this will greatly simplify that process for most people.

I've played around with the build and it seems really tight, no bugs at all that I've noticed. Really sharp UI and speed improvements!

Well done on the speed. Very peppy now moving between lists.

I think hiding the purge button under edit is good. Less accidental pushing.

As for the checkbox icons, I personally squish to a pretty small font and small spacing so I find the new icons take up more room and appear bulkier. But that's me, and that's minor.

I think that making the sync button visible only when applicable (per your question above) would be good. The less distractions on a small screen the better.

After using this build for a few days, I really found that I missed having the "purge" option available on the main screen.     I also, though, found that I liked having the manual "sync" button. Perhaps it would make sense to keep the sync button at the bottom left but put the purge button to the left of it on the main screen. This would also be a less jarring user experience to those used to the existing location of the purge button.

I see there are different opinions about the button rearrangement. I will publish the beta wider (there was no email sent out yet) and see if there is there are trends in that bigger feedback.

In hiding the "purge" button I was trying to free up some space first and foremost. Then on the other hand I was planning to add other "bulk" operations such as "email selected task" that would logically go under the same button (which will effectively turn into a menu), but wouldn't make sense hidden under "edit" mode. I'll think some more about it.

Love the new UI, it is different, and a ton better! Great job to alll who helped in the process. A good UI could improve sales for the app even more! Wonderful!

I think I found a bug.
Enter a list, slide a task to delete it but don't press the delete button.
Then tap the edit button -> you're in edit mode but the display did not changed.

Update: in beta 21-8 I have added a few hi-res icons, so if you've got a retina display you might want to try it. Most prominently, the app icon itself is hires and also iPad-compatible.

Sadly, I don't have hi-res checkboxes so those remain pixel-doubled on retina for now. If anyone can volunteer a better version I'll add it in. :)
